CALYPSO: LLMs as Dungeon Masters’ Assistants

The best use of AI is in your narrow domain of expertise, where you can understand its limits, and its value. That helps you become a "centaur," integrating your best human abilities with the capabilities of AI work, so that your output becomes a blend of both, like the half-person half-horse of myth.

The best use of AI is in your narrow domain of expertise, where you can understand its limits, and its value. That helps you become a “centaur,” integrating your best human abilities with the capabilities of AI work, so that your output becomes a blend of both, like the half-person half-horse of myth.

For example, this paper set GPT up as a specialized Dungeon Master’s assistant, and found that it helped real DMs make their D&D games run better.

In my own experiments, LLMs can eat rulebooks & deliver some pretty cool advice and story hooks, which can save you a lot of time and help make better experiences (especially for complicated or intense games). The result makes the job of DMs easier and more fun. the paper says: “LLMs assist, rather than replace, human DMs” https://lnkd.in/eBqx74-E
